About Me

My name is Akira Hasegawa.

I was born in 1989. Based in Japan.
I am raising three boys.

I am researching garment from the 18th century to the early 20th century.

I am living to convey the excitement of 100 years ago to 100 years from now.

My inspiration is something invisible.
They are "comfort" and "internal structure," both of which ceased to exist hundreds of years ago.

To study comfort and internal structure, I study clothes by taking them apart.

I take things apart because I really like and love them.
I put my life on the line to work on it.

Disassembling the real thing reveals an amazing inner structure.

That is the root of beauty.

Sometimes we shed tears because of so much beauty.

I learn the structure from the disassembled garment and put it into a pattern.
There are excellent previous studies abroad.
However, I want to formulate my excitement with my own hands and with my own eyes.

I then produce a sample from the finished pattern.

I sew by my own hands and check the beautiful comfort of the garment.

It is important not only to see and enjoy the artworks at the museum, but also to deeply appreciate them with your own body.

And I make my research available to the public.

I preside over an exhibition named "Demi Deconstruction"

I also work with educational institutions and museums to communicate history and the roots of beauty.

Collaboration with the University of Tokyo.
I did a 2-day workshop with gifted children.

Using actual objects from that period as teaching materials, students learned about the structure and history.

Collaboration with "Parisiennes" exhibition at the Nagoya Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
It was a sister museum to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, USA, which unfortunately closed in 2018.

And I am uploading my solo exhibition on Youtube.

This is my work.
This is my excitement.
This is my mission.

And I hope that by selling the patterns completed in my research process, people all over the world will be able to experience the excitement.
